Beginning today, Thursday, December 30, the Verona Public Library will be putting a pause on browsing the stacks to find a book to read.
If you need a new book, you’ll have to place a hold on it through the online catalog or by calling the library at 973-857-4848. When your book is ready, you’ll get an email. Call the library at 973-857-4848 to tell the librarians when you can pick it up, and they will place it on the shelf in the front lobby. If you have something to return, use the book drop on Gould Street. If you need a library card, you can apply for one online here.
The library, which previously announced that it was pausing all in-person programs and meetings, will remain open so that people can use its public computers. Computer use is limited to 30 minutes, however, and you must wear a mask at all times while in the building. Please note that the library will be closed for the New Year’s holiday on December 31 and January 1.
In its announcement, the library did not specifically cite COVID-19, but cases have surged in Verona since Thanksgiving, with 646 new positives as of today. That is a 34.6% increase, the third highest rate in Essex County after Maplewood and South Orange.
