Hanukkah In Verona

Hanukkah begins today, Sunday, November 28, and it will be celebrated a bit differently in Verona this year.

The menorah that was donated by the former Congregation Beth Ahm will be lit every night by Town Hall beginning tonight. But the community gathering at the menorah will not be held until Sunday, December 5 at 5 p.m. The gathering will feature songs, food and art.

Verona had a vibrant Jewish community for decades, and it came to worship at Congregation Beth Ahm at the corner of Grove Avenue and Personette Street. The synagogue closed in 2017 and its members donated its menorah to Verona. Reporter Daphne Glatter took a look back at Verona’s Jewish community earlier this year and you can read it here.
