Mr. Raymond C. Smith, 78, died peacefully on January 21, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson.
Visiting will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Tuesday, January 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. Face masks and social distancing are required.
Born in Passaic, he grew up in Garfield before moving to Verona where he married his sweetheart, Andrea 38 years ago in the First Congregational Church of Verona. He graduated Garfield High School with the Class of 1959.
His professional career was in cosmetics, working for Coty Cosmetics as a Lab Technician testing color combinations for their nail polish line. Upon retirement he worked as a crossing guard in North Caldwell.
Ray considered himself a “happy camper” when he could be outdoors and enjoyed his lengthy career as a cub scout Packmaster with BSA Pack 2-Verona and then as Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 2-Verona. He was also a very active member of the First Congregational Church of Verona, serving on multiple committees.
He will be remembered for his love of his family and friends, his dry humor and enthusiasm for laughter and his strong sense of community service.
Ray is predeceased by his beloved wife, Andrea M. (nee Berger) Smith and his parents, Cyril and Jean (nee Kruzelnick) Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristin Ransiear and her husband, Charles; son, Richard C. Smith; and sister, Carol Miller.
