Cases of COVID-19 are rising in Verona. Township Manager Matthew Cavallo said at Monday night’s Town Council meeting that there have been 67 new confirmed cases of the virus in the past 30 days in Verona. According to daily data distributed by Essex County on Monday, Verona’s total case count is now 229, with the number of deaths unchanged at 14.
But Cavallo cautioned that the number of positives may actually be higher than reported. “We are seeing evidence of household spread,” he told the Council. “So we, we actually believe that the number is probably higher, as there are people in households that probably have not gotten tested.”
“We are asking everybody to please be vigilant in your interactions in the community, wear a face covering and stay six feet apart from others,” Cavallo added. He also said that Essex County will again bring its free COVID-19 testing to the Verona Pool parking lot on the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. Registration for that testing date will likely open later next week, Cavallo added. There are several other free testing sessions before then at sites around the county; you can find dates and locations here.
Cavallo also said that Essex County will continue to hold free food distribution events through the end of the year, and that the county executive, Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr., hopes to be able to continue that into the first quarter of next year.
