Mrs. Jean S. (nee Clifford) Dougherty, 95, died peacefully at home in Branchburg, N.J. on October 28, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Lakeside Avenue, Verona on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 11 a.m. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.

Born and raised in Newark, Jean lived in Verona, Bridgewater, Sidney, Ohio, Spring Lake Heights, Chatham, Brick, and Forked River, N.J. before moving to Branchburg in 2001.

Prior to her marriage to Bill in 1948, Jean studied to become a nurse. She devoted her love and life to her family as a homemaker extraordinaire. Jean and Bill became co-owners of Search East, Inc., an employment search company in Union. They enjoyed many years sharing their home down the shore with family and friends.

Jean enjoyed a good game of golf, travelling with the Questers and playing Bunco, dominoes and bridge. She drove her car until she was 92. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with and hearing about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean also adored her beloved pets, Shammy and Skittles.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona and Our Lady of Lourdes in Whitehouse for many years.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband, William J. Dougherty.

She is survived by her loving children, William Dougherty of Indiana, Karen Smith (Jack) of Verona, Maureen Dougherty (Chuck Deeney) of Brick, Robert Dougherty (Lois) of Whippany, Patricia Dunaway (Jake) of Highbridge and Matthew Dougherty (Lora) of New Providence; cherished grandchildren Sean, Shannon, Cassidy, Michael, Christopher, Lisa, Linda, Dan, Luke, Kyle, Will and Maddie; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Colin, Michael, Taso, Toula, Christopher, Olivia, Cole and Ruby. She is also survived by a dear family friend, Bonnie Kelly.

Donations in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
