The Verona High School girls cross country team is recognizing the two seniors on its team this year, Amanda Caldera and Veronica Valera.

Caldera, below, was also part of the the 4×400 team that made it to the indoor track sectionals last winter and also competes in high jump.

Valera, shown above on her way to winning Wednesday’s 5K race at Branch Brook Park with a time of 21:37, has excelled at distance running, outdoors and indoors. Last season, she won both the 1600m and 3200m at the SEC championships, and took fourth in the 3200m at the state Group championships with a personal best of 11:52.06. The New Jersey XC/Track& Field Coaches Association voted Valera first team All-Essex County for the indoor 3200m this past spring.
