Six years ago, the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona‘s first Verona Fights Hunger Week collected 790 bags of food and $1,900 in donations, and the community service group considered it a great success.
This year’s drive, which ran October 11 to 17, almost doubled that. When the all the donations were loaded into the Casella & Sons moving truck for delivery to the food pantries, there were 1,243 bags of food staples, $3,762 in donations from the community and an additional $1,000 from Kings Food Markets.
The food will be distributed through the food pantry at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Verona and the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.
