Essex County will offer free, drive-in testing for COVID-19 at the Verona Pool on Tuesday, September 22 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Essex County residents age 8 and older, with or without symptoms, are encouraged to get tested. Residents are encouraged to get retested if they have been tested 14 or more days ago, and have received negative test results or are asymptomatic. Testing is provided free of charge to Essex County residents, and no insurance is required.

The test being given is the saliva or molecular diagnostic test, which involves spitting into a test tube. It tests for an active viral infection at the time of testing and is considered the most accurate. It takes less than 15 minutes to do the test and you remain in your car the whole time. Anyone taking the COVID-19 saliva test should not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum 30 minutes prior to arrival.

Testing is done by appointment. To make one, visit www.EssexCOVID.org or call 973-877-8456.

There will also be testing on Monday, September 21, at Belleville High School, and on Thursday, September 24, in the Millburn Commuter Lot, from 4 to 6 p.m. both days.
