This Thursday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m., the Jersey Shore Film Festival will screen “Ride The Wave,” a documentary about Scott Chesney’s efforts to overcome adversity and inspire others to do the same.
The film, which was released in April, looks at what happened when Chesney, who has been paralyzed from the waist down since the age of 15, decided to learn to surf in 2015. After several successful rides on an adapted surfboard, Chesney was knocked off his board and ended up with a broken leg. He spent months in rehabilitation until he could resume his career as a motivational speaker.
“Ride the Wave,” was supposed to have had an in-person premiere at several domestic and international film festivals this year, but that was altered by the pandemic. It has been accepted into five, including the Jersey Shore Film Festival, and Thursday’s virtual screening will be followed by a Q&A with its film makers,Nulty Films, and Chesney himself.
