The Hilltop Grasshopper won’t be held this August because of the pandemic. Race organizer Geordan Smith sent out an email with the announcement today. This year would have been the tenth anniversary of the mountain bike race, which is open to elementary and middle school children. The race began on the rocks and rough terrain at the southern end of the Hilltop Reservation but moved to a course on the east side of Fairview Avenue last August.
Smith said that while the Grasshopper won’t be on, the “Kid’s Korse” can be used by young bikers, their parents and their friends for practice, with social distancing and helmets of course. To use the Kid’s Korse, park at the Cedar Grove Community center on Fairview Avenue, then head downhill through the park and into the woods at the lower edge to the rail trail.
And put August 7, 2021 on your calendar: That will be the date for the 2021 Grasshopper.
