The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) honored 354 high school seniors as scholar-athletes on Monday, among them Erin Petrino of Verona High School.

Petrino is the salutatorian of the Class of 2020 and she also has competed in pole vault for winter and spring track. In 2019, she was one of only 193 students worldwide to earn a perfect score on the AP Computer Science exam and one of just 17 AP Scholars With Distinction at VHS last year. These students received an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

In athletics, Petrino took first place in girls pole vault in the Essex County Championship in February by clearing 9’6”. She then finished first in Sectionals, and qualified for the Meet of Champions with an 8’6” vault.
