Verona cancelled its summer concert series on May 19 and now Essex County has followed suit. The announced on Monday, that both its summer concerts and the fireworks displays that accompany many of those shows have have been cancelled because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.  Verona cancelled its Independence Day fireworks in May as well.

In the past, Verona’s concerts started mid-July and ran every Wednesday evening until the end of August, either on the lawn in front of Town Hall or at the Verona Pool.

Essex County traditionally has hosted three fireworks displays in Branch Brook, Weequahic and Brookdale parks. In recent years, its roughly 30 summer concerts have included a variety of music genres, cover bands and day-long festivals.
