May is mental health awareness month and Verona’s public schools are closing it out with a mental health awareness week for students and their families, and the Verona community at large. The week is also a good way for the public get acquainted with the elements of the district’s Social Emotional Learning Resources website, which includes a relaxation “room”, positive thinking resources and a section devoted to handling crisis situations.
The full schedule is in the flyer below, which you can download here. You can access the Friday videos here.
The week will also include a special webinar screening, for Verona High School seniors only, of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s “It’s Real” documentary. “It’s Real,” which has previously been screened for seniors in the VHS auditorium, focuses on mental health issues that can arise in college and how to cope with them. The screening is free to VHS thanks to the fundraising done at AFSP’s suicide awareness and prevention walks in Verona Park since 2017. AFSP’s New Jersey chapter will also be offering free virtual programs to the entire Verona community in June.
