The Verona Town Council has called a special meeting for Thursday, May 21. The meeting will be held over the video conferencing platform Zoom at will begin at 7 p.m.
The agenda for Thursday’s meeting seems to center on the Council’s need to vote on a resolution authorizing a memorandum of understanding with Essex County about the disbursement of CARES Act funds. The $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was approved by Congress in March, includes the $150 billion Coronavirus Relief Fund to provide assistance to state, local and tribal governments. It is intended to cover expenses occurred solely because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 that were not planned for in the budgets of those government entities. Verona approved its budget last month and has not yet provided details on the cost of COVID-19 here.
The meeting agenda also includes a resolution to acquire two new vehicles for the Verona Police Department and a request by GTI New Jersey for a letter of support for a medical cannabis dispensary located at 30 Pompton Avenue.
