This is it, folks: The last two days of “Doors Of Verona.” When MyVeronaNJ started “Doors Of Verona” on April 11, we pledged to spend $1,000 on gift certificates from Verona businesses and we’re down to our last 50 bucks. Today’s contest photo is above and today’s $25 gift certificate will be to Blooms In Hand, the subscription flower bouquet business that opened in what may have been Verona’s first post office on Claremont Avenue in 2017.
Speaking of bouquets, yesterday’s gift certificate was to a different type of bouquet business, Baked Bouquet. Founded in Verona in December 2014, it frosts cupcakes to look like flowers. Owner Wissam Elgamal, who developed his business idea after 14 years as an Edible Arrangements franchisee, has frequently posted Instagram pictures of himself decorating cupcakes during the pandemic while wearing his signature purple top hat — and a mask.
Yesterday’s winner was Chloe Wynne, part of a clan that has been actively participating in “Doors of Verona.” She correctly guessed Verona Sports Center, or actually what used to be Verona Sports Center until Ben Leuzzi retired and closed his store earlier this year. Yes, we’ve seen that there seems to be construction activity at the site. No, we don’t know what it is, but we’ll find out.
