Mr. Stephen A. Fenton, 77, died on April 19, 2020 at the Firemen’s Home in Boonton.

Private family services were held. A celebration of his life will be announced when it is safe to do so. Condolences may be left at proutfuneralhome.com.

Steve was born and raised in Glen Ridge, moved to Verona in 1965 and enjoyed his time in Edgecomb, Maine.

He was the owner of Fenton Contracting of Verona from 1965 to 2005 and was often seen driving his trucks and front end loaders along the streets of West Essex.

He was in the Verona Kiwanis, serving as vice president, was a member of the Verona Fire Department (Company 2) from 1967 to 1974 and was on the Verona Rescue Squad from 1968 to 1980, serving as captain.

He also was a member of the Edgecomb, Maine Fire Department, serving as equipment captain.

Steve is survived by his beloved Phyllis (nee Poch) Fenton and her children, John Martin, Alice McCarthy, Nancy Martin, Daniel Martin and Joel Martin, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Steve was known to often say “Nothing is impossible, the impossible just may take a little longer”
