Clap For Health Heroes, Essential Workers
Derwent Avenue’s nightly tribute to health heroes and essential workers is going town-wide, starting tonight.
Last week, the residents of the long street near the center of town began coming out every evening to clap their hands and bang pots and pans to show their support for those on the front lines of the health crisis caused by the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
This afternoon, township officials posted to social media to ask all of Verona to join in the recognition. “To show our gratitude and support for the frontline workers, we are encouraging all residents to clap and make noise every night at 7 p.m. for the next two weeks,” the town wrote.
To get everyone to clap at the same time, the town will sound the emergency horn at 7 p.m. The announcement asks everyone to clap for two full minutes, with a caveat: “Please keep in mind all social distancing,” the town wrote. “This is not a time to congregate.”
