Two fundraisers have been set up to help feed the healthcare workers at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Hospital as they help the victims of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Verona resident Kate Curren has already collected around $3,000 and is accepting donations through 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. She intends to buy food from local restaurants tomorrow.

“Walking down Bloomfield Avenue this morning, I was thinking of ways I can support our local economy,” Curren wrote in an email. “Having friends who are on the front lines of taking care of people who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, I wanted a way to help them too.” Anyone interested in supporting this can Venmo her @Kate-FullerCurren.

Barbara Rosen, a MyVeronaNJ.com reader who lives in Montclair, has set up a GoFundMe to buy food from local restaurants for the doctors, nurses, techs, security, maintenance and other staff at Mountainside’s Emergency Room, ICU and other areas. She has 10 restaurants ready to create food.

“We are working closely with Florey Cruz-Cerpa, Mountainside’s Community Health Manager, to set up as many deliveries as we can arrange and afford,” Rosen says. “At any given time, there are 100 clinicians and 100 other staff on site.” The GoFundMe can be found here.
