It’s that time of year: Time for Verona’s municipal government to hold workshop presentations for the Town Council and the public on different aspects of the annual budget.
Two nights of workshops are being held this year, on Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3. The first night will include an overall presentation on the budget, as well as breakouts on Verona’s municipal court, the Verona Public Library and the Verona Police Department.
At Tuesday’s workshop, the presentations will focus on the administration and finance part of the budget, as well as the Construction Code office, Recreation Department and Verona Community Pool, Buildings and Grounds Department, and Public Works Department, which will cover the budgets for street work, shade trees and water/sewer operations.
Over the last five years, the Town Council has worked to decrease Verona’s reliance on its capital account to cover budget deficits and fund current-year operations. This gap has been narrowed substantially by reducing police overtime, overall attrition in employee headcount, sharing services with other towns and managing municipal healthcare costs, but is not yet at zero.
Both meetings will be held in the Town Council chambers on the second floor of Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. and they are open to the public. The meetings will also be videotaped for Verona’s YouTube channel.
