William Paterson freshman right hander Ian Metzger, a 2018 graduate of Verona High School, was acknowledged as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week on Monday after helping the Pioneers secure a season-opening victory.

With WP trailing host Stevens 4-3 on February 22, Metzger entered during the bottom of the sixth inning and spun 5.0 shutout frames, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out four Ducks to help the Pioneers rally for a 6-4, 10-inning win.

William Paterson (1-0, 0-0 NJAC) will take on Drew during the Pioneers’ home opener on Wednesday, February 26, at 3 p.m.
