Last year, Chloe Mathewson and Alena Gabbe collected more than 300 fancy dresses and accessories that they then donated to girls in Appalachia. Gabbe and Mathewson are now seniors at Verona High School, and they will be holding the dress drive again.

The students are looking for donations of prom dresses, Communion dresses, Easter dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and other semi-formal/formal dresses, as well as formal shoes and clutches. All donations must be clean and put in a dry cleaning bag with the size clearly marked. All lengths and sizes will be accepted.

You can drop your donations off at VHS at the dress rack in the lobby until Wednesday, February 26, or put them in the donation bin in the Church of the Holy Spirit parking lot at 36 Gould Street.

Donations will be brought to St. Paul, Va., a town that Mathewson and Gabbe got to know when they volunteered with Holy Spirit’s mission trip to Appalachia in 2018. “Ms. Anita–the woman who runs Grace House where we sent the dresses–told us in an email that one little girl asked when she had to bring her dress back and when she told her it was hers, she was amazed,” says Gabbe.
