Almost as soon as the current school ends in June, the heavy work on Verona’s schools that was approved in the November referendum will begin. To make sure that it all gets done before the 2020-2021 school year starts, the Board of Education has revised next year’s calendar. The upshot: Verona’s kids will get a longer summer break than they were anticipating.
Under the revised calendar, the first day of school for the 2020-2021 school year will be Monday, September 14, 2020. (Teachers and staff will report on Friday September 11.)
“Shifting the start of school to September 14th allows for an additional two weeks to complete summer construction,” the district said in an email sent to families this week. “This additional time is significant in allowing our district to accomplish referendum construction projects while minimizing disruptions to the teaching and learning process.”
