Share Your Light Night has been postponed until Friday, December 20, due to the rain. The event is the creation of the Verona Woman’s Club, Junior Woman’s Club and Juniorettes, and the lighting of the luminaries at individual homes and at the civic center in front of Town Hall is meant to be a symbol of neighborhood unity.

So plan on lighting your luminaries at 5 p.m. next Friday.

  1. Paper bags with candles in them should be called luminaria because the concept originated in Mexico and, when it came to the southwestern United States, the Spanish word was used. The word luminaries, on the other hand, has been used to indicate that people are famous or dignitaries. However, when Verona’s women’s groups introduced Share Your Light Night, a decade ago, they used “luminaries” to describe the paper bad lights and we respected that choice of wording.
