Mrs. Eugenia Jean “Jeannie” (nee Rettino) Battista, 87, died peacefully on December 3, 2019 in Morristown.

Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona will be on Friday, December 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Born and raised in Orange, Jeannie lived in Verona for 54 years before moving to East Hanover in 2015.

A lifelong caregiver to family and friends, she worked in the offices of Anderson Consulting for many years before retiring in 1998.

Jeannie was active in the St. Vincent’s Nursing Home Auxiliary, serving as trustee and chairperson of the “Spring Fling” fundraiser. She was also an active member of the Women’s Club of Upper Montclair.

A wonderful hostess with a ready smile, she loved to cook and entertain her family and friends.

Jeannie was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Samuel J. Battista.

She is survived by her loving children, James, Samuel (Natalie), Susan Gramcko (Walter) and Jeannie Liska (Gordon); cherished grandchildren, Michael and Samantha Battista, Christopher Gramcko and Kathryn Buckley, Tara, Danielle and Renee Liska, Sam and Jenna Battista and Olivia and Alexis Battista and great-granddaughters, Hailey and Sophia Battista. She is also survived by her siblings, Joseph Rettino, Lucille Savino and Arthur Rettino.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory would be appreciated.
