Verona High School JV Field Hockey secured a 4-1 win over Livingston’s freshman team on Tuesday. This is the Lady Hillbillies’ second win in their inaugural season.
Verona’s midfielders and forwards possessed the ball for much of the game—stringing together strategic passes and moving the ball up the field and within scoring distance countless times.
Josie Shust had one goal and one assist. Sarah Knoetig, Marykate Dougherty, and Sam Pecora each had one goal. Rio Gagnon, Julia Balogh, and Clara Frizzi each had one assist. Ashlee Vargas had three saves, and conceded just one goal in the second half.
Verona JV Field Hockey will verse Summit on Thursday, September 26, at 4 p.m., at Centennial Field. You can follow the team’s schedule here and learn more about the Verona Field Hockey Parents Association on its Facebook page.
Field hockey returned to VHS this fall after a nearly 40-year hiatus, and nearly two-thirds of the team have never previously played the sport. The program is funded only by the Verona Field Hockey Parents Association (VFHPA), with all athletes participating on a “pay-to-play” basis.
