Verona’s Christopher Festa and the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays had a stellar run through the Division III College World Series.

Festa is an outfielder for Hopkins and his team opened by beating Babson, a team had previously been #9 in the nation. Each of the competition’s two brackets played to a double-elimination winner and then the two bracket winners advanced to a best-of-three championship series. Festa had an RBI in Hopkins’ 7-6 win over Babson on May 31, and another in the 6-5 win over Babson on June 2

Hopkins’ game against Birmingham-Southern saw Festa hitting the longest home run of the tournament, over 425′ to right field, but Birmingham-Southern would go on to win that game 4-3. (The Alabama team fell to California’s Chapman University in the finals.) Hopkins ended the season #3 in the nation out of more than 400 Division III teams. Festa, who is majoring in economics with a minor in applied mathematics, has just completed his junior year at JHU
