One of the chief responsibilities of the Verona Town Council is managing the town budget. It’s not always an easy task to deliver the kinds of services that an upper-middle-class town like Verona has come to expect while keeping a lid on tax increases.
But that’s the challenge that the two people who will be elected to the Town Council in May will have to take on. Five Verona residents are running for those two seats: John Fio Rito, Christine McGrath, Michael Nochimson, John Quattrocchi and Alex Roman. Verona’s budget constraints are the reason why MyVeronaNJ.com’s question to candidates this week is this:
Question 2: Verona officials have discussed the concept of shared services for many years, both with the Board of Education and with other townships. Which services should and shouldn’t be shared, and why?
To help voters meet the candidates and learn about their views, MyVeronaNJ.com is asking every candidate to respond to a weekly question about the issues facing Verona. Questions are sent to the candidates on Friday and the deadline to respond is noon on Tuesday. Candidates’ responses are listed in the order in which they were received, and MyVeronaNJ.com did not edit the answers in any way, whether for grammar, spelling or length. Candidates were also asked to send a photo, and the links to their campaign websites or social media, if they had them. Those links are included here.
A new question will be sent to candidates every Friday through May 3. The candidates will also respond to questions during a forum to be conducted by the Junior Woman’s Club on Wednesday, May 1, at the Verona Community Center.
