Verona resident Sarah Ford is a coach for Girls on the Run (GOTR), a non-profit program that teaches young girls life skills through running. Ford is also, as MyVeronaNJ.com reported last year, a living kidney donor. Now, her kidney recipient and his wife have set up a scholarship award in her name to offset the cost of participating in the program.

The Sarah Ford Going the Distance Award will run for the next five years, and will be available to four Girls on the Run participants each fall.

The full scholarship will be for the fall 2019 season, but interested girls must apply by May 15. Applicants must be in third through seventh grade, be a current GOTR participant (or have participated in at least one season of GOTR) and attend a school in Essex County. Winners will receive a scholarship valued at the full cost of one GOTR season, which can be redeemed within one year of receipt. Awards will be announced by May 31, 2019.

Girls who are interested can apply here.
