Come learn how you can attract birds, butterflies, and pollinators to your garden through the plants you choose. The Essex County Chapter of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey announces its first public meeting on Sunday, March 31, from 3 to 4 p.m., at the Montclair Public Library, 50 S. Fullerton Street.

John Black, the president of the Society, will present on the “Plight of the Pollinators, Native Plants to the Rescue.” This program will explain what we mean by “native plants” and why our pollinators need them for survival.

The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available next door, behind the United Way building at 60 South Fullerton.

The Native Plant Society of New Jersey, founded in 1985, is dedicated to the appreciation, protection, and study of the native plants of New Jersey. It sponsors two statewide conferences each year on the first Saturdays in March and November. The Essex County Chapter began in January 2019 and is sponsoring tables at plant sales, open garden tours, gardening workshops, and native plant/seed exchanges.
