Verona High School freshman Trevor Semeraro will collect gently used sneakers for the Max Cure Foundation from Friday, March 1 to Friday, March 8.
In the Dunk Your Kicks fundraiser, the Max Cure Foundation collects and sells the sneakers to an international recycler of used clothing, who resells the shoes as affordable footwear in developing nations. The Max Cure Foundation, which was created after a young boy from northern New Jersey battled pediatric cancer, uses the money raised to underwrite an immune cell therapy lab at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, supporting legislative and regulatory changes to benefit children with cancer and raise awareness about the needs of those fighting pediatric cancers, in the general population and in the military.
The sneaker collection box will be inside at the Verona Public Library.
