Desiree Meyer has had some big games for the Verona High School girls basketball team this season. She had 15 points against Shabazz, 18 against Bernards and 20 against Columbia.
But all that pales compared to what Meyer did to Mount Saint Dominic Academy on Thursday afternoon. When the buzzer sounded for halftime–yes, halftime–Meyer had been responsible for 21 of Verona’s 30 points. Verona would go on to beat the Mount 40-23.
Meyer has a knack for three-pointers and she didn’t disappoint on Thursday: Her total on the afternoon included five three-pointers, the third time she has achieved that feat in her four years on VHS varsity. And if there’s a record to beat before that career wraps, it’s Meyer’s own. She has also had two games with six three-pointers.
Thursday’s win also had strong performances by Brianna Horton, Kylee Gallagher and Cayla Okafor, who led both teams in rebounds with 14. It improves the Lady Hillbillies’ record to 11-2. Verona’s next game will be hosting Shabazz on Saturday at 11 a.m.
