Kyle Malanga seemed to soar above the boards as the Verona High School boys basketball team scored a 66-43 win over Cedar Grove at home yesterday afternoon. Malanga, who is in his second year on the varsity squad, delivered 14 of those points, leading the scoring for Verona.
The game seemed to be in Verona’s hands from the opening seconds. By the half, the Hillbillies had a 40-10 lead over the Panthers. Cedar Grove’s scoring, led by Jordan Amati, recovered in the second half of the contest, but by then the damage was done.
Pierce Coppola delivered 12 points for Verona and Derek Jocelyn had another 11 in the win, which improves Verona’s record to 8-6. Verona travels to Weequahic High School on Thursday for a 4 p.m. start.
