Verona Police Offer Tips For Safe Holiday Deliveries

By on December 2, 2018

It’s the holiday season, a time for getting, giving and, in this age of e-commerce shopping, of deliveries being shipped to our houses when we are not home–and then stolen. The Verona Police Department says that while home surveillance systems are useful for providing descriptions of suspects and their vehicle, as well as the time of a theft, they do not prevent thefts.

So to keep deliveries safe, the VPD has issued some tips:

  • Have packages delivered to your office or place of employment
  • Request packages be delivered to less conspicuous location, such as a back porch or side door
  • Ask a family member, trusted neighbor and friends to accept deliveries on your behalf
  • Request a signature on delivery if possible
  • If a shipper offers it, use a locker service or distribution center delivery for pickup
  • Keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles and persons in your neighborhood and report an activity to Verona Police immediately at (973) 239-5000.

The Verona Police Department also wants residents to know that local businesses such as Terry’s Family Pharmacy will accept packages for residents during the holiday season.
