The game between the women’s soccer teams of the University of North Carolina and UCLA was not even three minutes old when Julia Ashley, Verona High School class of 2015, headed in the first goal for the Tar Heels. Her team went on to defeat UCLA in penalty kicks after they tied in regulation, sending UNC to the semifinals of the 2018 NCAA College Cup.
Ashley, who plays defense, is one of the team’s three captains. The long header (watch it below) was her fifth goal of the season. She is also a member of U.S. U23 National Team, and has been named to 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
