gun lockChristine McGrath, a Verona resident who is the co-chair of the Essex County Chapter of Moms Demand Action, will lead a conversation about kids, guns, and safety to help prevent unintentional child gun deaths on Tuesday, November 13.

The talk, which will take place at 10 a.m. at the Millburn Public Library, 200 Glen Avenue, Millburn, is part of Mom’s Demand Action’s BeSMART program. The BeSMART campaign promotes responsible gun storage and asks all adults to take simple steps to reduce the harm that can occur when unsupervised children gain access to a loaded, unsecured firearm.

SMART adults follow these five easy steps to keep kids safe:

  • Secure guns in homes and vehicles.
  • Model responsible behavior around guns.
  • Ask about unsecured guns in other homes.
  • Recognize the risks of teen suicide.
  • Tell your peers to be SMART.
