Michael Garcia, who competes on Verona High School’s wrestling team, is collecting old wrestling shoes and wrestling singlets for Wrestle in My Shoes. The non-profit takes in gently used wrestling shoes and equipment and gives them to young people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to participate in wrestling. Garcia notes that inner-city participation in wrestling is disappointing because no youth or high school program supplies shoes. Getting an equipment donation can make a huge difference in a child’s life.
Wrestle in My Shoes accepts gear donations in any shape and size. It has received donations as small as one pair of shoes and as many as 100 at a time from programs and individuals all across the United States. Several collegiate wrestling programs have also made large donations over the years, and members of U.S. Olympic teams and Olympic hopefuls have hosted donations drives, including Jordan Burroughs, Frank Molinaro, Jenna Burkert, Jordan Oliver, and Pat Downey.
Everyone in wrestling has smaller shoes or used singlets. If you do, Garcia asks that you drop them off on the front porch at 105 Cumberland Avenue in Verona or at the Cordoba Trained wrestling school, 25 Amity Street, Little Falls, N.J..
