Girls Tennis Nails Quarterfinals

The Verona High School girls tennis team will advance to the semifinals of the state playoffs after defeating Hasbrouck Heights 5-0 in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.

Alyssa Deo, at first singles, defeated Patrixia Rosario 6-0, 6-1, while Megan Forrest topped Devon Sonzogni 6-0, 6-0. Desiree Meyer rounded out the singles team at third singles, and beat Cathy Costa 6-0, 6-1.

Verona’s first doubles team of Gillian O’Donnell and Sara Sexton won their match 6-1, 6-1, and the second doubles squad of Ashley Baumgard and Kylee Gallagher won 6-1, 6-3.

The semifinals will pit Verona against Glen Ridge, a top high school tennis team, in Glen Ridge on Friday at 2 p.m.
