The week of September 24 saw the Board of Education candidates talk about their goals, VHS honored its AP test scholars, sports teams were active, and more.
BOE Candidates Question 2: Goals And Obstacles
MyVeronaNJ.com asked the candidates to spell out what they want to achieve during their term on the Verona BOE, but the question can’t end there. The difference between promising change and achieving it often hinges on understanding what the obstacles to change are, and what the limitations are on each elected role. So we also asked them to tell us the biggest impediment to making their goal a reality. You can read their answers here.
Volleyball Wins, Football Loses
The VHS volleyball team won an important game for suicide awareness, as well as an important rematch against arch-rival Caldwell. The football team’s unbeaten streak was broken at a night game in Newark.
At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, Verona High School honored 94 current and former students for their performance on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Nine students were honored as National AP Scholars, which is the designation for students who receive an average of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
This was the largest cohort of National AP Scholars since 2009. Get all the names–and their awards–here.
What else happened in the week of September 24? The Verona Police charged a burglary suspect in a summer crime spree, Team Zoey opened registration for its Thanksgiving weekend 5K and announced a t-shirt contest, a Congressional candidate spells out views, and more.
