Earlier this season, the Verona High School volleyball team faced arch-rival Caldwell in a quad match and came away disappointed. Not so on Friday.
Playing at home, the Lady Hillbillies definitively dispatched the Chiefs in two lightning-fast sets, 25-15 and 25-14.
The contest was all maroon from the get-go. Verona laid down a big lead in the first set, and never let up until the closing buzzer. Hunter Coppola led Verona–led the whole shebang, actually–in service points with 12, followed closely by Nicolette Marino with 10. Brooke Cooney added nine more kills to her season total, putting her on pace to top her record last year.
The win was the 10th straight for Verona, which is playing this season under a new head coach, Sherrilyn Ferrari. The team currently sits on top of the Super Essex Conference’s American division with an 11-2 record. Verona travels to Sparta on Monday for a 4:30 start.
