The Verona Adult Recreation Soccer (VARS) program held a tournament on July 26 and raised nearly $1,000 from the community to support the expanding Verona High School girls soccer program.

This year, for the first time in many years, the girls soccer lineup will include a freshman team. The money raised by the VARS tournament will defray the cost of uniforms and equipment for the new squad.

The coordinators of the VARS tournament were Canberk Oguz (VARs president), George Klein, Wayne Looney, and Paul Mathewson. Verona Adult Recreational Soccer plays on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Centennial Field behind the Verona Community Center and you  must be registered on the Verona Recreation Department’s Community Pass system to play.

The parents of all the girls soccer teams are inviting the community to come out and support them. Their schedules are here: girls varsity, junior varsity, and freshman.

The tournament winners.
