Team Zoey, the group that is working to fund research into a life-threatening disease that affects a Verona child, has set the date of this year’s Team Zoey Golf Outing for Monday, September 24, at the Preakness Hills Country Club. You can register online as either a single golfer or a group, purchase raffle tickets, or send a donation.
Zoey Penny was diagnosed with progeria as an infant eight years ago. The extremely genetic disease causes people to age rapidly.
Progeria is incurable right now, but Team Zoey has inspired people all over Verona to hold lemonade stands and bake sales to raise money to help the Progeria Research Foundation to study the disease, and Team Zoey has held bigger events, like the golf outing and a 5K race in Verona Park right after Thanksgiving. Team Zoey founder John Marozzi says that these efforts have raised almost $3 million for PRF, which was funded research, drug trials and more.
