Real Estate: Verona History For Sale

The Gould Mansion, now a three-family home, was built around 1830. It’s for sale.

The history books say 22 Rockland Terrace was built around 1830, making it the fourth-oldest house still standing in Verona. In the history books, it is known as the Gould Mansion, because it was built by the family that once owned a large chunk of the center of Verona. The Gould property ran along the north side of Bloomfield Avenue from the lawn in front of Town Hall, west past Gould Street, over Grove Avenue and all the way up to Fairview.

As MyVeronaNJ.com wrote two years ago in our feature on Verona’s Oldest Houses, there are about 70 homes in town built before 1900 still standing. Some, like the Priest House, retain much of their original character; others, less so. There’s only one exterior photo posted of 22 Rockland Terrace, so we don’t know where it sits on the old house spectrum, but there’s an open house there today, so you can find out.

There are 10 new listings this weekend, 10 open houses and six homes with price adjustments, and we should note that, because of Father’s Day, some of the open houses are on Saturday instead of Sunday. Here’s what’s happening, from lowest priced to highest in each category.
