The runs have become the largest public awareness and fundraising events for the Special Olympics, which holds sporting events for athletes with intellectual disabilities around the U.S. and the world. Since their creation, the Torch Runs have raised more than $500 million for Special Olympics, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The Verona Police participated in this year’s run with the police departments of West Orange, Montclair, Glen Ridge and Bloomfield. The run ended at the Bloomfield PBA Hall on Watsessing Avenue.
