Verona LionsThe Verona Lions Club is seeking applications from students who are Verona residents who actively participated in valuable services to the community. The Lions may present up to three cash awards of $1,500 to graduating high school seniors who best exhibit service to their school, community, church, temple or non-profit charitable organization.

Our award criteria are not based on academic achievement or financial need but rather exclusively on volunteer service. Volunteerism and service to others is at the heart of our Lions Club credo: “We Serve”.

Applications should provide a clear description of services performed and when they took place to Diane Newman in the Guidance Department of Verona High School no later than May 4, 2018 or to the Verona Lions, PO Box 38, Verona, NJ 07044. All mailed applications must be postmarked no later than May 4, 2018.

The application should provide clearly worded explanations of the services rendered and to whom, when they occurred and benefits achieved. Please include a weekly time devoted to the volunteer efforts. It is important that the descriptions be detailed enough so that we can properly evaluate your service. If you name a school club or organization, please explain what it does.

The following is a list of examples of volunteer service that the Verona Lions Club believes demonstrate the service award criteria. It is not meant to be an all – inclusive list and if you have any doubts about a particular volunteer effort, please list and explain.

  • Service to a fund-raising effort benefiting your school or charitable cause
  • Service to a social function committee
  • Service to the administrative office of your high school
  • Service to audio-video or technical efforts to your high school
  • Service for such events as a International Weekend
  • Service as a member of Student Government
  • Service as a member of a peer leadership group or anti-drug effort
  • Service to the school nurse or librarian
  • Service involving efforts to improve the Town of Verona
  • Service in connection with civic or charitable efforts of a church, temple, or other non-profit
    organizations.
  • Service to others for the environment, senior citizens, disabled or any health related efforts.
