Mr. H. Joseph Schulte, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his home in Verona. Visiting will be on Sunday, March 25 from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona. A Funeral Mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona on Monday, March 26 at 10 a.m.

Born in Montclair, Mr. Schulte grew up in Bloomfield and moved to Verona in October of 1961. He graduated in 1955 from Immaculate Conception High School, where he met his sweetheart, Joan A. Kloss. At ICHS, he played tackle and she was cheerleader for the football team. They married on June 7, 1958 in St. Valentine’s Church, Bloomfield.

Mr. Schulte was a member of the U.S. National Guard for seven years, graduating Officers’ Candidacy School and achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant when honorably discharged.

Mr. Schulte became well known and well respected as he worked in the hardware and lawn and garden industries for over 40 years, most recently for the N. E. Drazan Corporation of Manhattan and Great Neck, N.Y. He was also a member of the American Hardware Manufacturer’s Association and served as treasurer for the United Jewish Appeal Federation of New York.

In his personal life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially summer vacations in Manahawkin, fluke fishing in Barnegat Bay and surf fishing on Long Beach Island. He also delved into machining and antique clocks in his spare time.

A man of faith, Mr. Schulte was active at Our Lady of the Lake Church, made his Cursillo, hosted Men’s Prayer Groups, was a member of the Financial Committee, taught CCD, and occasionally a song leader.

Mr. Schulte was predeceased by his son, baby John Joseph, and brothers, Francis and Robert Schulte.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan A. Schulte, his loving children, Elizabeth Schulte, Kenneth Schulte and his wife, M. Paulette, and Thomas Schulte and his wife Julianne, and cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Raymond, Joy, Laura, Rachel, Ryan, Daniel, Emily, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Steimle and her husband, Kenneth.
