The opening Olympic freestyle tournament was held at Bergen Catholic High School today and three Verona wrestlers brought home silver medals.
Tom Kellner (white shirt above), a Verona resident who wrestles for Saint Peters Prep in season, and Verona High School wrestling teammates Michael Garcia (center) and Dean Palmer (far right) each got the big win, while fellow VHS wrestler Gabe Breitenbach fell one match short of the medal round.
The boys all train at Cordoba Trained wrestling school in Little Falls under Whalid Hogan, Freestyle world champion, and Dave Cordoba, who was a New Jersey state champion and four-time state finalist during his high school career.
