The NJSIAA basketball playoffs start on Tuesday for Verona High School’s boys and girls teams.
The girls, who are the No. 2 seed in North 2 Group 2, will play at home against No. 15 seed Parsippany, with a 4 p.m. start. Ridgefield Park is the No. 1 seed in North 2 Group 2, which also includes Bernards, Newark Tech, Rutherford, Caldwell, Hanover Park, Morris Tech, Newark Central, Science Park, Lyndhurst, Fort Lee, Hackettstown, Madison, and Harrison. The Lady Hillbillies have a 16-7 record this year, and are 11-5 in conference for second place in the SEC’s Colonial division.
The boys travel to Bernards High School for a 7 p.m. game. After seeing almost all their players graduate in 2017, the year in which the VHS boys basketball team won its first state championship in 60 years, the boys have had a rebuilding season, and are the No. 13 seed in North 2 Group 2. Bernards is the No. 4 seed in the boys bracket, which is topped by Hackettstown. The Verona boys have a 9-15 record, and are 4-9 in conference.
