Essex County Groundhog Goes Contrarian

Essex EdEssex Ed, the resident groundhog at Essex County’s Turtle Back Zoo, did not see his shadow on Groundhog Day today. That puts him at odds with Punxsutawney Phil, who did. Remember, the lore is that seeing a shadow means six more weeks of winter, while not seeing one means an early spring.

While the Pennsylvania rodent did not venture a prediction on the Super Bowl, Essex Ed opined that the New England Patriots would defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in this weekend’s football championship. (Top odds-makers have the Pats to win, but Philadelphia to cover.) And props to Ed for demonstrating healthy eating ahead of the big game.
