Playing at home, the Verona High School girls basketball team easily beat Cedar Grove yesterday afternoon, 38-25.
Kylee Gallagher, a sophomore, led the scoring for Verona, with 11 points. She also led in the paint, with nine rebounds. CC Courter had 10 points and three rebounds, and Desiree Meyer had nine points and four rebounds. Jessica Sinisi was the high scorer for Cedar Grove, with 10 points.
The win improves Verona’s record to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in conference.
The VHS varsity boys team meanwhile fell to Irvington in Irvington yesterday, 54-49. Joe Zecchino was the high scorer for Verona, with 13 points. The record for the boys team, which lost most of last year’s state championship team to graduation, now stands at 4-8 overall, and 2-4 in conference.
Both teams will be in action at home on Saturday, with the boys playing Eagle Academy at 10 a.m. and the girls playing Columbia High School at 11:30.
