The Verona Lions Club has picked the winners for its annual Super 50/50 Raffle. Bill Able, president of the Verona Lions, announced the winners during the Club’s last meeting for 2017.

The first prize winner was Rob Janett of Massachusetts, who was awarded $6,032. The second prize winner was Anthony Catena of Verona, who was awarded $1,502.

The raffle sold 1,508 tickets at $10 each. All funds collected by the Lions go back to the programs supporting Verona. The funds that are raised will support the Verona Lions’ charitable activities throughout the township, including the purchase of additional equipment for the Hospital Loan closet. The Lions will be purchasing additional transport wheelchairs, which are in high demand.

The Lions donate over $3,000 annually in ShopRite gift cards to Verona residents in need during the holidays. In addition, the Lions make yearly service to Verona High School seniors in recognition of their community service achievements. The Club also plans to make improvements to the Verona bus stops across from the Community Center and by Verona Park.

Last year, the Lions donated more than $15,000 to local charities and causes, including over a dozen sight and diabetes-related charities and youth causes.

Thank you to all who participated in this year’s raffle. Congratulations to the winners!
